Richard Kamprath is a graduate of Concordia College in Nebraska and the University of Michigan. He studied organ with Newman Powell and Barrett Spaech and voice with Millard Cates and Edgar Jones.

He has conducted choral groups at Diablo Valley College since 1964, and his Chamber Singers have performed for many years in both intimate concerts and on annual tours.

Richard Kamprath founded the Diablo Valley Masterworks Chorale in 1968. Since then the group has performed many of the great choral masterpieces such as the Brahms Requiem, the Sacred Service of Bloch, numerous of the oratorios of Handel, Mendelssohn's Elijah, and the B Minor Mass of J.S. Bach which the Chorale will perform in the Spring of 2007.

Richard Kamprath has taken the Chorale on four concert tours to various parts of Europe from Scotland to the Czech Republic and Italy.

Active in church music for over 30 years, Mr Kamprath was director of music at the Walnut Creek Methodist Church and the Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church.
